The cars in this photo were built in the 1920's and are similar
to the BMT Standards. This train is in St. George. This photo was taken in
1967, long before the MTA took control of the line. |

The interior of the cars were unlike the BMT cars. The RR style
reversable seats and door controls were significant differences. |

After the MTA took over SIRT and added OA to its name, the
equipment shortage was relieved by borrowing some MP72's from the LIRR. Here a
train of LIRR cars lay over at Tottenville during the 1972 NRHS New York
convention. |

Fifty-two of the R-44 cars were deliverd to what was then called
SIRTOA in 1971. Twelve more, cars 388 to 399 were transfered to SIRT from the
BMT-IND later. |
